MUSIK DAN FUNGSI OTAK

HUBUNGAN MUSIK DENGAN FUNGSI OTAK

Semua jenis bunyi atau bila bunyi tersebut dalam suatu rangkaian teratur yang kita kenal dengan musik, akan masuk melalui telinga, kemudian menggetarkan gendang telinga, mengguncang cairan di telinga dalam serta menggetarkan sel-sel berambut di dalam Koklea untuk selanjutnya melalui saraf Koklearis menuju ke otak. Pertama, Musik akan diterima langsung oleh Talamus, yaitu suatu bagian otak yang mengatur emosi, sensasi, dan perasaan, tanpa terlebih dahulu dicerna oleh bagian otak yang berpikir mengenai baik-buruk maupun intelegensia. Kedua: melalui Hipotalamus mempengaruhi struktur basal "forebrain" termasuk sistem limbik, dan ketiga: melalui axon neuron secara difus mempersarafi neokorteks. Hipotalamus merupakan pusat saraf otonom yang mengatur fungsi pernapasan, denyut jantung, tekanan darah, pergerakan otot usus, fungsi endokrin, memori, dan lain-lain. Seorang peneliti Ira Altschuler mengatakan "Sekali suatu stimulus mencapai Talamus, maka secara otomatis pusat otak telah diinvasi."

MUSIK DAN PRODUKSI HORMON

Pada kondisi stress, adrenalin banyak dikeluarkan dan pembuluh darah kulit menyempit, sehingga suhu kulit menurun.
Energi yang berlebihan dari musik rock akan mempengaruhi jantung untuk berdetak lebih cepat. Itu sebabnya pendengar musik rock sangat sulit untuk duduk diam bila mendengar musik yang mempercepat denyut jantung. Energi yang terakumulasi akan mencari jalan untuk dilepaskan.
Selain meningkatkan denyut jantung, tekanan darahpun dapat meningkat oleh adanya adrenalin. Hal ini juga akan kembali meningkatkan produksi adrenalin, karena tubuh yang berada dalam keadaan stress, berusaha untuk mengatasinya dengan memproduksi lebih banyak adrenalin agar alert/waspada. Jika denyut stress ini berlangsung terus menerus, misalnya pada sebuah konser rock yang panjang, maka jumlah adrenalin yang diproduksi menjadi berlebihan, dan tubuh tidak mampu lagi untuk membuang kelebihan ini.

Kalau musik mempunyai pengaruh yang sangat dalam terhadap organisme sederhana seperti itu, apa pengaruhnya terhadap sistem yang lebih kompleks?
Musik juga dikenal sebagai wahana terapi. Sejak zaman dahulu dikenal penyembuhan fisik dan mental melalui musik. Daud memainkan kecapi sambil menyanyi untuk menyembuhkan Raja Saul yang sedang gundah. Musik juga dipakai oleh Raja Philip V dari Spanyol, Raja George II dari Inggris, dan Raja Ludwig II dari Bavaria untuk penyembuhan. O'Sullivan (1991) mengemukakan bahwa musik mempengaruhi imaginasi, intelegensi dan memori, di samping juga mempengaruhi hipofisis di otak untuk melepaskan endorfin. Endorfin kita ketahui dapat mengurangi rasa nyeri, sehingga dapat mengurangi penggunaan obat analgetik, juga menurunkan kadar katekolamin dalam darah, sehingga denyut jantung menurun. Mornhinweg (1992) meneliti 58 subyek sehat untuk menilai jenis musik mana yang menurunkan stress. Musik klasik ternyata memberikan efek relaksasi yang dapat dibuktikan secara statistik dibandingkan dengan musik "new age". Musik yang menenangkan ini juga dipakai dalam pengobatan penderita serangan jantung, pasien sebelum operasi, bahkan untuk menurunkan stress pasien yang menunggu di ruang tunggu praktek.

Mendengar melodinya saja, kita dapat dipengaruhi.

2. Mempengaruhi tekanan darah
Contoh: opera, illustrasi musik hukuman mati. Tekanan darah naik.

3. Mempengaruhi pencernaan
Contoh: beberapa musik dengan melodi yang sangat fluktuatif

4. Mempengaruhi pernapasan
Contoh: illustrasi musik pacuan kuda, film aksi.

5. Mempengaruhi emosi 
Lirik lagu sangat mempengaruhi emosi. Baik negatif maupun positif. Lagu-lagu putus asa, kata-katanya membuat kita lemah, ada yang membuat kita bersemangat. Dapat membangkitkan emosi, keinginan memberontak dan sebagainya.

6. Mempengaruhi intelegensi/kecerdasan
